Today's highlights
A destination is more than a city: it's everything you can experience there.
Crystal-clear rivers, caves and snorkeling among the fish.
The Falls, Itaipu and the meeting point of three countries.
Vineyards, immigrant towns and the mountain chill.
Serra do Mar, islands and colonial Paraty, between Rio and São Paulo.
Dozens of beaches, a lagoon and Azorean villages on a single island.
White dunes and blue lagoons as far as the eye can see.
Dunes, freshwater lagoons and sunset from the top of the dune.
Waterfalls, canyons and old diamond-mining towns in the heart of Bahia.
Warm natural pools between Alagoas and Pernambuco.
High-altitude cerrado, waterfalls and canyons in northern Goiás.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Brasília is an open-air tour of Oscar Niemeyer's curves, from the Congress to the Cathedral. Between one monument and the next, Lago Paranoá (lake) and the preserved cerrado (Brazilian savanna) add a green counterpoint. And just over a hundred kilometers away, the giant waterfalls of the surrounding Goiás countryside begin.
More than a hundred beaches are squeezed between the Serra do Mar (mountain range) and the Atlantic, from calm coves for kids to beaches with heavy waves that have shaped generations of surfers. You can start the day snorkeling around an island with clear water in Ubatuba and end it having dinner in Maresias or in the colonial village of Ilhabela. Between one beach and the next you find Atlantic Forest waterfalls, coastal trails and caiçara (traditional coastal) communities.
Cities to start with
Each city has a page with what to do there.
Recife brings together rivers, bridges and historic heritage on the coast of Pernambuco. Walks through the old center and along the Boa Viagem waterfront can be combined with visits to museums, churches and theaters.
Maceió brings together clear-water beaches, natural pools and historic heritage on the coast of Alagoas. The Ponta Verde waterfront and the Jaraguá neighborhood let you combine seascapes and cultural outings.
Rio de Janeiro brings together beaches, mountains and historic heritage between the sea and the Atlantic Forest. Walks along the waterfront can be combined with visits to gardens, theaters and other cultural spaces.
Gramado combines gardens, lakes and European-influenced architecture in Serra Gaúcha. You can walk around Lago Negro and mix outdoor outings with cultural activities in the center.
Bonito brings together clear rivers, caves and forest landscapes in the Serra da Bodoquena. The Gruta do Lago Azul and the aquatic environments reveal the link between the water and the region's limestone formations.
Barreirinhas grew up on the banks of the Rio Preguiças and is one of the gateways to the Lençóis Maranhenses. Boat trips reveal riverside villages, while dunes and lagoons complete the journey.
