The guide
Cidade Turismo is a travel guide built city by city, now also in France. For each place you'll find things to do, attractions with their own page, when to go and how to get there.
The guide has three ways in, so you can start wherever you like: routes, which link towns along one journey; destinations, which are the tourist regions; and the regions, with the main cities in each one.
The texts are written from official tourism sources, such as national and regional tourism offices, national parks and city halls, and new cities and routes keep being added to the guide.

Where to start
Six cities from the guide, changing every day.

Small port on the estuary of the Seine, Honfleur is centered around the Vieux Bassin, the old dock of tall narrow houses that inspired Boudin and Monet. It has the igreja de Santa Catarina, built of wood by ship carpenters, the Musée Eugène-Boudin and the Maisons Satie, the composer's birthplace. On the other side of the Pont de Normandie are the cliffs of Étretat.

Chamonix lies in the valley at the foot of Mont Blanc, the highest point of the Alps at 4,807 meters, near the borders with Switzerland and Italy. From the town center departs the Aiguille du Midi cable car, at 3,842 meters, and the Montenvers train to the Mer de Glace, the largest glacier in France. On the other side of the valley, Brévent and Flégère face the massif, and the trail to Lac Blanc starts from Flégère. In the center is the Musée du Mont-Blanc; nearby, in Saint-Gervais, is the Tramway du Mont-Blanc.

Ajaccio is the capital and largest city of Córsega, on the island's west coast. Napoleon was born here, and the Maison Bonaparte, the cathedral where he was baptized and the Palais Fesch tell that story. The centre brings together Place Foch, the market and the harbour. At the mouth of the gulf are the Pointe de la Parata and the Îles Sanguinaires, and about a morning's drive away are the Calanques de Piana and the Golfe de Porto, with boats to the Scandola reserve.

Toulouse, capital of Occitanie, is nicknamed ville rose because of the brique foraine, the clay brick that gives a pinkish hue to the old centre. It has the Basilique Saint-Sernin, the Capitole on the Place du Capitole and the Couvent des Jacobins, and is home to Airbus, with the Cité de l'espace and the Aeroscopia museum. The Garonne and the Canal du Midi cross the city.

Annecy sits at the outlet of Lac d'Annecy, a glacial lake surrounded by mountains, in the department of Haute-Savoie. The vieille ville has canals from the Thiou river, colorful houses and the Palais de l'Isle, a former prison on a small island. Above are the Château d'Annecy and the Basilique de la Visitation; on the lakeside are the Jardins de l'Europe and the Pont des Amours. Nearby are the Gorges du Fier, Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard and the Semnoz.

Cannes is the city of the film festival, with the Palais des Festivals and the Boulevard de la Croisette along sandy beaches. The old quarter of Le Suquet, atop the hill, preserves the monks' castle and offers views over the bay. A few minutes by boat are the Îles de Lérins, with the fort of the Man in the Iron Mask and an abbey that is still inhabited. The Marché Forville shows the city's daily life.
