The guide
Cidade Turismo is a travel guide built city by city, now also in Chile. For each place you'll find things to do, attractions with their own page, when to go and how to get there.
The guide has three ways in, so you can start wherever you like: routes, which link towns along one journey; destinations, which are the tourist regions; and the regions, with the main cities in each one.
The texts are written from official tourism sources, such as national and regional tourism offices, national parks and city halls, and new cities and routes keep being added to the guide.

Where to start
Six cities from the guide, changing every day.

Punta Arenas is the capital of the Magallanes Region, on the shore of the Estreito de Magalhães, and the main air gateway to Torres del Paine. In the center are Plaza Muñoz Gamero and the Cementerio Municipal Sara Braun; to the north, the Museo Nao Victoria. Boats take visitors to the penguins at the Monumento Natural Los Pingüinos, and by road you can reach Fuerte Bulnes and the Reserva Nacional Magallanes.

La Serena, capital of the Coquimbo region, was founded in 1544 and is known for its stone churches. In the center are the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the Iglesia de San Francisco, the Museo Arqueológico, the La Recova market and the Parque Japonés Kokoro No Niwa. On the coast are the Faro Monumental and the beaches of the Avenida del Mar; nearby, Coquimbo hosts the Cruz del Tercer Milenio and the Barrio Inglés. To the north, the Reserva Nacional Pingüino de Humboldt offers boat trips.

Vicuña is the main town of the Elqui Valley, about 62 km from La Serena, amid dry hills and vineyards of pisco grapes. In the Plaza de Armas stands the Torre Bauer, and a few blocks away is the Museo Gabriela Mistral, dedicated to the poet born there. Near the town are the Centro Turístico Capel and the tourist observatories Cerro Mamalluca and del Pangue. Further up the valley are Montegrande and Pisco Elqui.

Hanga Roa is the village of Ilha de Páscoa on the west coast, where almost the entire population lives. The name, in Rapa Nui, means long bay. It has the fishing boat cove, Avenida Policarpo Toro and the Iglesia de la Santa Cruz. To the north are the Tahai complex and the Museo Antropológico Padre Sebastián Englert. From there depart excursions to Tongariki, Rano Raraku, Anakena, Te Pito Kura, Ahu Akivi, Puna Pau, Vinapu, Rano Kau and Orongo.

Puerto Varas is on the south shore of Lago Llanquihue and was founded by German settlers in the mid-19th century. From the Costanera of Puerto Varas you can see Volcán Osorno across the lake, and atop the town center is the Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. To the east are the slopes of Volcán Osorno, the Saltos del Petrohué and Lago Todos los Santos.

Santa Cruz is the center of the Valle de Colchagua, in the O'Higgins region, about 180 km south of Santiago. The town life revolves around the Plaza de Armas, with the carillon and the parish church, and the Museo de Colchagua, which holds thousands of natural history and Chilean artifacts. Around it, the Carretera del Vino leads to wineries such as Laura Hartwig, Viu Manent, Montes, MontGras and Viña Santa Cruz, known for their Carménère and Cabernet Sauvignon reds. In March, the Fiesta de la Vendimia takes over the square.
