The guide
Cidade Turismo is a travel guide built city by city, now also in Portugal. For each place you'll find things to do, attractions with their own page, when to go and how to get there.
The guide has three ways in, so you can start wherever you like: routes, which link towns along one journey; destinations, which are the tourist regions; and the districts, with the main cities in each one.
The texts are written from official tourism sources, such as national and regional tourism offices, national parks and city halls, and new cities and routes keep being added to the guide.

Where to start
Six cities from the guide, changing every day.

Small village in the municipality of Alijó, at the confluence of the Pinhão River with the Douro, in the heart of the vinho do Porto estates. The train station is decorated with tile panels about the grape harvest. Around it are estates that receive visitors, such as Quinta do Bomfim, and the Miradouro de Casal de Loivos above the river bend.

Seaside town in the center of the Algarve coast, with an old town of white houses descending to Praia dos Pescadores. To the east is Praia da Falésia, with red and golden cliffs; to the west, the marina and, about 16 km away, the Algar de Benagil and Praia da Marinha, linked by the Sete Vales Suspensos trail.

Historic city in the western Algarve, with a walled centre, the Praça do Infante, the Mercado de Escravos and the Igreja de Santo António, with gilded woodwork. To the south, the coast has the cliffs and caves of the Ponta da Piedade and beaches among rocks, such as Dona Ana and Camilo; to the east, the Meia Praia. About 33 km away are Sagres and the Cabo de São Vicente.

City on the south bank of the Douro, opposite Porto, where Port wine has been aged in cellars for centuries. At the Cais de Gaia are the cellars, the rabelo boats and the WOW, a museum quarter. Above, the Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar and the Jardim do Morro offer the best view of Porto, and the cable car descends to the river. On the coast to the south is the Capela do Senhor da Pedra, perched on a rock on the beach.

Capital of Portugal, Lisboa rises over hills by the Tejo. The Baixa, rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, links the Rossio to Praça do Comércio. Alfama has the Castelo de São Jorge, the Sé, the Panteão and the Museu do Fado; Chiado and Bairro Alto lie on the other side. In Belém are the Torre, the Jerónimos and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos. The city is rounded out by the Gulbenkian, the Oceanário, the Parque das Nações and the Elétrico 28.

Capital of the Algarve, Faro sits on the edge of the Ria Formosa. The Cidade Velha, surrounded by walls, is entered through the Arco da Vila and contains the Sé and the Museu Municipal. Outside the walls, the Igreja do Carmo houses the Capela dos Ossos. Boats depart from the quay to the islands of the Ria Formosa, and Praia de Faro is on an island connected by a bridge.
