The guide
Cidade Turismo is a travel guide built city by city, now also in South Africa. For each place you'll find things to do, attractions with their own page, when to go and how to get there.
The guide has three ways in, so you can start wherever you like: routes, which link towns along one journey; destinations, which are the tourist regions; and the provinces, with the main cities in each one.
The texts are written from official tourism sources, such as national and regional tourism offices, national parks and city halls, and new cities and routes keep being added to the guide.

Where to start
Six cities from the guide, changing every day.

Simon's Town is the South African Navy town on False Bay, about 40 km from central Cape Town. The main street has Victorian houses, the naval harbor and the pier for sightseeing boats. Just to the south is Boulders, with the African penguin colony, and about 25 km along the peninsula is the tip with the Cape of Good Hope and the Cape Point lighthouse. On the way back toward the city are Kalk Bay and the colorful bathing huts of Muizenberg.

Storms River is the village at the end of the Garden Route, already in the Eastern Cape, at the gateway to the Tsitsikamma area of the Garden Route National Park. About 15 km away is the Storms River mouth, with a suspension bridge over the sea, forest trails and the start of the Otter Trail. Near the village are the Big Tree, a yellowwood about 800 years old, and the Bloukrans Bridge, known for its bungee jump.

George is the largest town on the Garden Route and the gateway to the route, with George Airport (GRJ). Founded in 1811 and named after King George III, it lies at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains, about 10 km from the sea. It has the Outeniqua Transport Museum, with steam locomotives, and the exit to the Montagu Pass, an 1847 mountain road. Victoria Bay and Wilderness are less than 20 minutes away.

Capital of the Western Cape and seat of the South African Parliament, Cape Town sits between Table Mountain and Table Bay. The cable car climbs the mountain; below are the Castle of Good Hope (1679), the Company's Garden, the colorful Bo-Kaap, the District Six Museum and the V&A Waterfront harbor, with the Zeitz MOCAA and the boat to Robben Island. Kirstenbosch, Camps Bay, Chapman's Peak Drive and Groot Constantia are less than an hour from the center.

Umhlanga is a beach town about 15 km north of central Durban and about 18 km from King Shaka Airport. The seafront promenade links the red-and-white lighthouse, from 1954, to the pier shaped like a whale skeleton and to the lifeguarded beaches. On the high ground of the town is the KZN Sharks Board headquarters, the body that manages shark-protection nets, and to the north is the Umhlanga lagoon nature reserve.

Mossel Bay is where Bartolomeu Dias landed in 1488, at the start of the Garden Route. The Bartolomeu Dias Museum houses a full‑size replica of the caravel and the post tree, where in 1500 a captain of Cabral’s fleet left a letter. At the town’s tip are the lighthouse and the Cape St Blaize cave, with very ancient human remains, and the cliff trail. The bay has warmer water beaches and is a whale‑passing area from July to November.
