The guide
Cidade Turismo is a travel guide built city by city, now also in French Guiana. For each place you'll find things to do, attractions with their own page, when to go and how to get there.
The guide has three ways in, so you can start wherever you like: routes, which link towns along one journey; destinations, which are the tourist regions; and the districts, with the main cities in each one.
The texts are written from official tourism sources, such as national and regional tourism offices, national parks and city halls, and new cities and routes keep being added to the guide.

Where to start
Six cities from the guide, changing every day.

Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni is on the bank of the Maroni River, on the border with Suriname, and was founded in 1858 as the center of French Guiana's penal camps. The restored Camp de la Transportation offers guided visits; the official district preserves colonial brick and wooden buildings; and from the riverside pirogues depart for Albina and for villages upriver.

Kourou is on the coast, about 60 km from Caiena, and grew up around the Centro Espacial Guianense, Europe’s launch base. The base offers guided tours by reservation; the Guyaspace Expérience shows how rockets and satellites work, and boats to the Ilhas da Salvação, with the ruins of the old prison, depart from the port. On the waterfront, the Pointe des Roches shelters the Tour Dreyfus.

Caiena, the capital of Guiana Francesa, sits on a peninsula between the Caiena River and the Atlantic. The old center brings together wooden creole houses around Place des Palmistes and Place Léopold-Héder, the Cathedral of Saint-Sauveur, the Alexandre-Franconie Museum and the central market, and Forte Cépérou dominates the city from the top of the hill. To the east, Rémire-Montjoly has the nearest beaches.
