The guide
Cidade Turismo is a travel guide built city by city, now also in Australia. For each place you'll find things to do, attractions with their own page, when to go and how to get there.
The guide has three ways in, so you can start wherever you like: routes, which link towns along one journey; destinations, which are the tourist regions; and the states, with the main cities in each one.
The texts are written from official tourism sources, such as national and regional tourism offices, national parks and city halls, and new cities and routes keep being added to the guide.

Where to start
Six cities from the guide, changing every day.

Capital of South Australia, Adelaide has a planned grid centre surrounded by parks. North Terrace brings together the art gallery and the botanic garden; the Central Market is a must; Adelaide Oval hosts cricket and Australian football. The tram takes you to Glenelg beach, and in the hills to the east are the Mount Lofty lookout and Cleland Wildlife Park, with koalas and kangaroos.

Small town up in the Yarra Valley, about 64 km from Melbourne, Healesville is the base for the Healesville native animal sanctuary, where you can see the platypus, the koala and the Tasmanian devil, and for the region’s wineries. The main street has bakeries, cafés and an old 1888 hotel, and the road to Marysville climbs through a forest of giant eucalyptus.

Capital of Western Australia, Perth lies on the banks of the Swan River, facing the Indian Ocean. Kings Park, atop Mount Eliza, has the city's most famous viewpoint; Elizabeth Quay opens the CBD to the river, and the WA Museum Boola Bardip tells the state's story. Cottesloe Beach, the Swan Valley with its wineries, and the Caversham wildlife park round out a visit.

Capital of New South Wales and the largest city in Australia, Sydney lives around Port Jackson bay. The Opera, the Harbour Bridge, The Rocks and the Royal Botanic Garden sit side by side at Circular Quay, where ferries depart for Manly, Taronga Zoo and Cockatoo Island. Hyde Park Barracks and Old Government House in Parramatta tell the story of the penal colony; Bondi is the most famous beach, about 7 km from the center.

Main town of Phillip Island, about 140 km from Melbourne, Cowes is on the island’s north coast, facing Western Port Bay, with calm beaches and a pier. It is the base for the Penguin Parade, where the little penguins return to the beach at sunset, for the koalas at the Koala Conservation Reserve, and for the Nobbies Centre, facing Australia’s largest seal colony.

As Australia’s federal capital, Canberra was planned around Lake Burley Griffin. The Parliamentary Triangle contains Parliament House, the old Parliament, the National Gallery, the Portrait Gallery and Questacon; on the other side of the lake are the War Memorial, Mount Ainslie and the National Museum. The National Botanic Gardens and Tidbinbilla Reserve showcase the region’s natural environment.
