Jucy Lucy — Minneapolis, the United States
The Jucy Lucy is the burger most associated with Minneapolis. Instead of placing a slice of cheese on top, the cook seals the cheese between two layers of ground beef and grills it. When the meat is done, the cheese inside is melted and very hot.
Two bars in south Minneapolis, a few kilometers from each other, claim to have invented the burger in the 1950s. One spells it Jucy Lucy, without the i, and the other spells it Juicy Lucy. The rivalry became part of the fun, and many visitors try both to compare.
The sandwich is simple: a soft bun, the stuffed burger, onion, and pickles. The first bite requires caution because the cheese comes out boiling hot, and locals usually warn first-timers.
