Who we are
A travel guide for the United States.
Cidade Turismo in the United States brings together, destination by destination, what you need to plan the trip: what to do, when to go, how to get there, and how long to stay in each city, from Florida to Alaska and Hawaii.
13 destinations 5 states 49 cities
Across Cidade Turismo: 43 countries · 78 routes · 568 destinations · 1,512 cities
What the guide covers
The guide starts with the most sought-after destinations: Orlando and the parks, Miami and the Everglades, Tampa, the Florida Keys, and New York. Next are Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, Niagara Falls, and the South of music and history, including New Orleans, Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, Charleston, Savannah, and the Great Smoky Mountains.
In the West are Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, the Monterey coast and Big Sur, Yosemite and Redwood in California; Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and the parks of Utah and New Mexico in the Southwest; Aspen, Vail, Denver, Yellowstone and Glacier in the Rocky Mountains; and Seattle. The list is completed by Texas, Chicago, St. Louis, Mount Rushmore, four Hawaiian islands, and Alaska. Each destination gathers the cities in the region, what to do in each, attractions with their own pages, when to go, and how to get there.
States and groups
The United States is divided into 50 states and the District of Columbia, where the capital Washington (D.C.) is located; it does not belong to any state. The guide organizes cities by those territories. To make travel easier, the states are grouped into 15 regions, such as Florida, New England, the Southwest, the Rocky Mountains, Hawaii, and Alaska.
The state of Washington, in the northwest, where Seattle is located, should not be confused with the nation’s capital.
How travel around the country works
The country is large: from New York to Los Angeles is about 4,500 km by road, and between the two coasts flying is the most common option. Within each region, a rental car is the most practical way to get around, especially in the West and in national parks. Trains serve the corridor between Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington well, and subways handle getting around cities such as New York, Washington and Chicago.
There are six time zones, and most of the country moves clocks forward one hour from March to November. On the roads, distances are shown in miles and temperature in degrees Fahrenheit; the guide uses kilometers and degrees Celsius. The country is in the Northern Hemisphere.
Alaska and Hawaii
Two states are far from the rest of the country. Alaska, at the far northwest of the continent, is separated from the other states by Canada, and Hawaii is an archipelago in the middle of the Pacific. Both have their own time zones, and reaching them requires a flight from the continental US.
Why there are no prices
Outside Brazil, the guide does not show ticket or tour prices, which change frequently and, in the United States, are also subject to taxes and tips. When a fee applies, the text notes it, and the amount should be checked before you go.
How the content is made
The information for each place is researched from official sources, such as state and city tourism offices, the National Park Service, museums, and UNESCO, and is checked before being published.
The pictures in this guide are illustrations based on the real place, not photographs, and may differ from it. Photos sent by travelers appear separately, as travelers' photos.
If you find any information that differs, write to us: fixing it is quicker than it seems.
