Things to do in Três Coroas
- Rafting no Rio Paranhana The rapids of the Rio Paranhana make the town one of the top rafting destinations in southern Brazil, with a run of about 8 kilometers. Parks along the river also offer zip lines, treetop courses and rappelling.
- Ponte Coberta Armindo Lauffer About 70 meters long, the covered bridge crosses the Rio Paranhana and draws on German building traditions. It's one-way for vehicles and gets special lighting at night.
- Templo Budista Chagdud Gonpa Khadro Ling A brightly colored Tibetan Buddhist temple tucked into the mountains, open to visitors. The Eastern architecture in the middle of the Rio Grande do Sul forest surprises everyone who arrives.
When to go
Rafting is best from October to April, busiest from December to March, when the heat helps. The temple is open to visitors all year, Thursday to Sunday. Winter is cold, as everywhere in the mountains.
How many days to stay
One day: rafting for part of the day and the Buddhist temple for the other. If you're staying in Gramado or Canela, it's usually a day trip.
