About Templo Budista Chagdud Gonpa Khadro Ling

Chagdud Gonpa Khadro Ling is a Tibetan Buddhist center on top of a hill in Três Coroas, in Serra Gaúcha. It was founded in 1995 by Tibetan master Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, who lived in Brazil until his death in 2002. A community of practitioners lives on site and looks after the place, which is supported by donations.

The visit is outdoors, along paths between gardens and Tibetan-style buildings. The centerpiece is the great temple, with its upturned roofs and golden ornaments at the top. Around it are the eight stupas lined up on the hillside, the prayer wheels, the statue of the Akshobhya Buddha, the Garden of the 21 Taras and the Guru Rinpoche Pure Land temple.

From the hilltop there's a wide view of the mountains and the surrounding forest. Prayer flags are scattered across the grounds, and the atmosphere is one of silence and contemplation. Take your time and respect the rules of the place: shoes stay outside the temples, and photography is not allowed inside the main temple.

The visit appeals to families, the curious and anyone looking for a moment of calm. There are stretches with stairs and grassy slopes, so the effort is moderate. Since almost everything is in the open air, rainy days take away some of the visit's charm.

Tip

The temple isn't open every day: check visiting days and hours on the official website before you set out. Wear shoes that are easy to take off and remember that photos are only allowed in the outdoor areas.
