About Mirante do Soberbo e Dedo de Deus

The Mirante do Soberbo is the most famous stop on the Rio–Teresópolis road (BR-116). It is by the highway, near the town's entrance interchange and the statue of Empress Teresa Cristina, and has the best-known view of the Dedo de Deus.

The Dedo de Deus is a finger-shaped granite peak pointing at the sky, in the Serra dos Órgãos. In 1912, a group of local residents reached the summit, in a climb considered the starting point of mountaineering in Brazil. The peak is so closely tied to the town that the Teresópolis motto, in Latin, means "under the finger of God."

From the viewpoint you see the Dedo de Deus head-on, alongside other peaks of the range, such as Escalavrado and Dedo de Nossa Senhora. On clear days, the view runs down the mountains to Guanabara Bay.

The stop is quick and easy: you park in the pull-off by the road and the view is a few steps away. It suits anyone, including people who do not want to walk.
