About Feirinha do Alto
The Feirinha do Alto is the best-known craft and clothing market in Teresópolis. It fills Praça Higino da Silveira, in the Alto neighborhood, and runs on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Its official name is Feirarte, but almost no one uses it.
It all began around 1973, when a small group of residents started displaying homemade products for tourists coming up the mountains. The city made the market official in 1985. Today there are hundreds of stalls, lined up in aisles under the trees of the square.
The highlight is cold-weather clothing from small manufacturers, such as knitwear and wool and linen pieces, along with crafts, crochet, costume jewelry, home decor and homemade sweets. There are food stalls for a snack while you shop. On clear days, the peaks of the Serra dos Órgãos appear above the stalls.
The outing is flat and easy, good for all ages. On winter weekends and long holiday weekends the square gets crowded, and getting around with a stroller takes patience.

How much time to set aside
One to two hours is enough to walk the aisles at a relaxed pace and do your shopping.
Best time
Saturday or Sunday morning, right after opening, when the square is still empty and the light makes the mountains crisp; in winter the market is busier and has more cold-weather clothing for sale.
How to get there

Tip
Arrive early on winter weekends and holidays: the square gets packed by midday and it is harder to browse the stalls at a relaxed pace.
