About Centro histórico de Domingos Martins

The center of Domingos Martins, which locals call Campinho, is the heart of the town founded by German immigrants in the Espírito Santo mountains. It is a small, quiet area, good to explore on foot.

The walk starts at Praça Dr. Arthur Gerhardt, with flower gardens and the Igreja Evangélica de Confissão Luterana (Lutheran church). The church tower was inaugurated in 1887, when the Constitution of the Empire allowed towers only on Catholic churches. That is why it is considered the oldest Protestant church with a tower in Brazil. The building is listed as a historic heritage site of Espírito Santo.

Nearby is the Rua do Lazer, the popular name for Rua João Batista Wernersbach. It is a pedestrian street with shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, busier on weekends and holidays.

The Casa da Cultura houses the town's history museum, with photographs, documents, objects and furniture of German and Pomeranian immigrants and their descendants. The center also hosts the town's main festivals, such as the Sommerfest and the Festival de Inverno.
