About Praia de Tabatinga
Praia de Tabatinga (beach) is in Conde, on the south coast of Paraíba, between Jacumã and Coqueirinho, on what is called the Costa do Conde. It is a beach of coconut groves, coves and cliffs, quieter and more residential than neighboring Jacumã, and it lies within an environmental protection area where cars are not allowed on the sand.
A maceió, where a small river meets the sea, divides the beach in two. Tabatinga I, on the Jacumã side, has the river mouth and a warm-water lagoon. Tabatinga II sits next to the cliffs and closer to Coqueirinho, with sandy nooks at the foot of the cliff walls and coconut palms.
The classic outing is to walk along the sand, swim in the maceió lagoon and climb to the viewpoints on top of the cliffs, which overlook much of the cove. At low tide you can walk along the shore to neighboring beaches. It is also a common stop on buggy tours of the Costa do Conde.
Facilities are simple: a few beach shacks and kiosks, and pousadas (guesthouses) scattered along the shore. It is good for families and anyone looking for peace and quiet; the stretches at the foot of the cliffs take a bit more effort to get down to and back up from.

Practical information
How much time to set aside
Half a day is enough for the beach and the viewpoints; a full day if you want to combine it with Coqueirinho and Jacumã.
Best time
In the drier months, from September to March, and at low tide, when the strip of sand gets wide and you can walk between beaches.
How to get there
It is in the municipality of Conde, on the south coast of Paraíba, near Jacumã. From João Pessoa, the easiest way is by car along the PB-008, with signs to the Costa do Conde beaches. There are city buses from João Pessoa to the area, but the trip is long with many stops.
Tip
Check the tide table before you go: at low tide the maceió lagoon gets shallower and the walk along the sand to the cliffs is easier.
