About Monumento de Nossa Senhora Aparecida

The Monumento de Nossa Senhora Aparecida is the large statue of Brazil's patron saint in Itaipulândia, in western Paraná. At 26 meters tall, it is said to be the largest depiction of Nossa Senhora Aparecida in southern Brazil.

The devotion goes back to the town's beginnings. The settlers who arrived in the 1960s called the place Aparecidinha do Oeste. The statue was unveiled in 2000, during the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the Portuguese arrival in Brazil, and stands on the highest point in town.

Inside, the statue has a marble-finished space used as a chapel. From the top of the hill you can see the town and the surrounding landscape.

The monument is part of the Santuário de Nossa Senhora Aparecida and receives pilgrims all year round. The busiest day is October 12, when the patron saint's feast brings together thousands of faithful from the region, many arriving on foot in pilgrimage.
