About Cachoeira Encantada
Cachoeira Encantada is one of the tallest waterfalls in Chapada Diamantina. The water plunges from the top of a rock wall into an enclosed canyon, within Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, in the countryside of Itaetê.
Getting there is a full-day adventure. The trail follows the riverbed, among rock slabs and riverside forest, with water crossings and stretches of slippery rock. Along the way there are rock paintings and natural pools.
At the end of the canyon, the wall opens up and the whole waterfall comes into view. When the water level is lower, you can swim in the pool at the foot of the falls. Many groups do the trek in two days, camping overnight.
The outing is for people in good physical shape who are used to walking on uneven ground. Always go with a local guide: when it rains, the river rises and the rocks get even more slippery.
