About Morraria do Sul
Morraria do Sul is a small rural district of Bodoquena (MS), high in the Serra da Bodoquena, right on the western edge of the plateau. It is a simple village of few streets and residents, living from small-scale farming and, increasingly, from community-based tourism.
The big draw is the landscape. From the viewpoints on the edge of the hills, the view opens over the Nabileque Pantanal plain and the Kadiwéu Indigenous lands that border the region. The sunset seen from there is the most popular moment, and on winter mornings fog often covers the valleys.
Besides the viewpoints, the area has waterfalls, trails, horseback rides and bike rides on the hill roads. The area's limestone rocks hold stromatolites, fossil structures formed by microorganisms.
It is a good place if you are looking for peace and nature, without the facilities of a tourist town. Watching the sunset at the viewpoint takes no effort; trails, horseback rides and bike rides range from easy to demanding and are done with local guides and pousadas.
