About Pedra Duas Irmãs

The Pedra Duas Irmãs is the postcard sight of Sumidouro, in the Rio de Janeiro mountain region. These are two large rocks that lean against each other, leaving a passage between them. A paved town street runs through this passage.

When you arrive in Sumidouro, you find the rock right at the entrance. Cars and pedestrians pass beneath it, as if through a natural tunnel. Plants and small trees grow in the cracks and on top of the rocks, and all around you can see the green hills that surround the town.

It is an almost obligatory photo stop. You can look at the rock head-on from the street, or from the lawn beside it, where you can better see how the two rocks meet at the top.

The visit is quick and takes no effort: everything is next to the street, on flat ground, accessible for people with limited mobility.
