About Parque Cremerie
The name comes from a factory. In the 19th century, Frenchman Jules Buisson set up a cheese and butter factory there, the Cremerie Buisson, on a property with gardens that already attracted visitors. Sources differ on the year it was founded. One account mentions about 400 liters of milk a day, brought by local farmers. The city turned the area into a municipal park in 1976.
It covers about 47,000 square meters in the Independência neighborhood, near the Palácio Quitandinha, in a protected area surrounded by Atlantic Forest. At the center is the lake, with pedal boats, small bridges, a decorative windmill and the lake house. Around it are dirt paths and lawns shaded by trees more than 50 years old. The park is maintained by the city, which repaired the bridges, the entrance and the lake house in 2025.
The park has a playground, sports courts, a soccer field, an outdoor gym, barbecue grills, a plant nursery and a heated pool used for water aerobics classes. Marmosets and forest birds appear in the trees. Admission is free and dogs are allowed. In 2026, the park had more than 74,000 visitors by August.
It is an outing with no set plan, for a morning or an afternoon. On weekends, families fill the lawn and the lake. On weekdays the park is quiet. On a hot day, it is a good place to walk in the shade, in a damp, wooded valley. It pairs well with the Palácio Quitandinha, a few minutes away by car.
