About Praia de Sibaúma

Sibaúma is the southernmost beach in Tibau do Sul (RN), where the Catu River meets the sea. Barely developed, it has pale sand, coconut palms, dunes and cliffs, and it is the choice for people who want peace and quiet after the bustle of Pipa.

The village grew out of an old quilombo (a settlement founded by people who escaped slavery) and still lives largely from fishing. On the sand, the stalls serve fish and shrimp caught right there.

The outing is about walking along the almost deserted beach, swimming in the natural pools that form with the tide and enjoying the river mouth, where the river's fresh water mixes with the sea. It is also on buggy and horseback riding routes.

The Catu River separates Tibau do Sul from Canguaretama. At low tide you can cross it on foot; at high tide, a hand-pulled ferry takes people and cars to the other side.
