About Lagoa de Guaraíras

Lagoa de Guaraíras is the large lagoon that opens to the sea next to the town of Tibau do Sul (RN), 8 km from Pipa. Its shores are mangroves and dunes, with small fishing communities around it, and the water is calm and warm.

The place is famous for its sunset: in the late afternoon the sun sinks on the far side of the lagoon and the water turns golden. It is one of the best-known sunsets in Rio Grande do Norte, seen both from the top of the village cliff and from the water's edge.

During the day, the lagoon is for boat and kayak trips. Boats leave from Tibau do Sul itself and from Praia do Centro in Pipa, with stops for a swim on sandbanks; sometimes dolphins appear. A ferry crosses the inlet to the Malembá side, the route for buggy tours.

It is a relaxed outing, with no physical effort, that combines well with a visit to the village of Tibau do Sul, much quieter than Pipa.
