About Lagoa do Bonfim
Lagoa do Bonfim is the largest lagoon in Nísia Floresta, on the southern coast of Rio Grande do Norte. It is also called Lagoa Sete Pontas. Its surface covers about 9 km², and it is considered the largest reservoir on the state's eastern coastal strip.
The lagoon lies within the Bonfim-Guaraíra Environmental Protection Area and is part of a group of lagoons connected by the same aquifer. More than a place for leisure, it is an important water source: the Agreste/Trairi/Potengi pipeline system starts here, carrying water to towns in the interior of the state.
Along the shores there are strips of pale sand, trees and simple stalls. The water is calm and inviting for swimming, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, and some people ride jet skis. The area known as Prainha is the most popular with visitors.
Since much of the shoreline is used for the water supply, facilities are modest and not every stretch is open to the public. It is a relaxed outing, good for families and for anyone who wants a day of fresh water away from the busy beaches.
