About Praia de Acaú
Praia de Acaú is the main beach in the district of Acaú, in Pitimbu, at the southern tip of the Paraíba coast, near the border with Pernambuco. It lies between Praia de Pontinhas, at the mouth of the Rio Goiana (river), and the village of Santa Rita.
The place has a village feel and basic facilities. It is very popular with visitors from the neighboring state, who come because it is so close to Pernambuco.
The sea is usually calm. Sandbanks appear in front of the beach and form shallow areas, good for relaxed swimming. Behind the strip of sand are coconut groves.
Acaú is also a fishing community and gives its name to the Reserva Extrativista Acaú-Goiana, a federal protected area created in 2007 that safeguards mangroves and the traditional use of natural resources by local communities.
