About Fervedouro do Alecrim
Fervedouro do Alecrim is on a small farm about 2 km from the center of São Félix do Tocantins, in Jalapão. It is a spring where the water rises strongly from the bottom and holds your body up: anyone who goes in floats effortlessly and does not sink.
What stands out is the color. While most fervedouros in the region are blue, Alecrim has greenish water. In size, it is close to its neighbor Bela Vista, one of the largest open to visitors.
There is more than one spring at the site, with different buoyancy at each spot. Boardwalks, stairs and a wooden deck connect the swimming spots and protect the sand and vegetation at the edge. A short trail lined with banana trees leads from the parking lot to the water.
Facilities are simple, with tables and benches for resting; there is no lodging. There is an admission fee and swimming is done in turns, with a limited number of people in the water. You may not go in with sunscreen, insect repellent or any other product on your body.
Before you go
Practical information
How much time to set aside
Allow about an hour: the swim is short, but you may have to wait for your turn.
Best time
In the dry season, from May to September, when the water is clearer and the roads are better; when the sun is high, the green of the water shows best, and outside holidays the place is quieter.
How to get there
It is at Chácara Barra do Alecrim, about 2 km from the center of São Félix do Tocantins. From the parking lot, a short trail leads to the fervedouro. Roads in the region are dirt and sand, and a 4x4 is best; many visitors go on a tour with an agency or guide.
Tip
Since it is close to town, it is a good visit for the late afternoon, after the day's longer outings. Do not put on sunscreen or insect repellent before going in.
