About Fervedouro Bela Vista

Fervedouro Bela Vista is a spring of clear blue water near the town of São Félix do Tocantins, in Jalapão. As at the other fervedouros in the region, the water rises from the bottom so strongly that your body does not sink: you float effortlessly, even if you cannot swim.

The natural pool is about 15 meters across and is among the largest fervedouros open to visitors. It is surrounded by vegetation and reached by a wooden structure, with stairs and a platform, that protects the fragile sand at the edge. A higher deck lets you see and photograph the spring from above.

The spot is on private property with a pousada (guesthouse), a camping area and a restaurant, and it is one of the best-equipped fervedouros in Jalapão. There is an admission fee. During the day, it is open to the public; at night, swimming is reserved for guests staying there.

Swimming is done in turns, with a limited number of people in the water and a short time for each group. You may not use sunscreen, insect repellent, shampoo or tanning lotion before going in, so as not to contaminate the spring. The outing is easy and suits all ages; you just walk down the wooden stairs to the water.

Practical information

How much time to set aside

Allow about an hour: the swim is short, but you may have to wait for your turn.

Best time

In the dry season, from May to September, when the water is clearer and the sand roads are better; in the late morning, with the sun higher, the blue of the water looks deepest.

How to get there

It is by the TO-110 highway, a few kilometers from the town of São Félix do Tocantins, heading toward Mateiros. Access is by a dirt and sand road; a 4x4 is best, especially in the rainy season. Most visitors arrive on a tour with an agency or a local guide.

Tip

Wear your swimsuit under your clothes and do not put on sunscreen or insect repellent beforehand: these products are not allowed in the water. If you want to see the fervedouro without tourists and by night, you have to stay there.
