About Praia dos Borges
Praia dos Borges is the river beach of Novo Acordo, a town at the gateway to Jalapão, in Tocantins. It lies on the banks of the Rio Sono and appears in the dry season, when the river level drops and uncovers the stretch of sand.
The setting combines light sand, calm water and forest on both banks, with a vegetation-covered rock wall at the back of the beach. From the top of the rocks you can see the river curving between the trees, one of the prettiest views of the place.
Each summer season, as people in Tocantins call the dry period in the middle of the year, the town sets up the beach with tents, food stalls, lifeguards, a marked swimming area and sand courts for sports competitions. The opening of the season brings concerts and usually draws large crowds of locals and visitors.
Outside event days, the beach is quieter and good for a family river swim. Getting onto the sand is easy, but the bank has stretches of rock and soft sand, which can be difficult for people with reduced mobility.
