About Rota da Cachaça
Rota da Cachaça is a tourist route that links ten distilleries spread across several rural districts of Luiz Alves, in the Vale do Itajaí. Created in 2018 as a partnership between the town government and local producers organized in the Associação dos Produtores de Cachaça Artesanal de Luiz Alves, the route builds on the tradition that earned the town the title of cachaça (Brazilian sugarcane spirit) capital of Santa Catarina.
The stops are spread along more than 25 kilometers of rural roads, among sugarcane fields, banana groves and forested hills. At each distillery, you can see up close how the spirit is made, visit the barrels where it ages, and taste and buy directly from the producers.
Several cachaças on the route have won awards in competitions in Brazil and abroad. In 2024, Luiz Alves cachaça received from INPI (Brazil's intellectual property office) a Geographical Indication registration as a Designation of Origin, at the request of the producers' association.
You tour the route by car, at your own pace: you can visit just a few distilleries or spend the whole day on it. It is an outing for adults interested in craft cachaça culture and the rural landscape of the valley.
