About Cristo Luz

Cristo Luz ("Christ of Light") is a 33-meter monument on top of the Morro da Cruz, in Balneário Camboriú. It was inaugurated on October 4, 1997, and has become one of the city's signature sights. In its left hand the statue holds a disc symbolizing the sun, from which a beam of light points at the city.

The name comes from the lighting. At nightfall, the statue is lit in colors, with a different color combination for each day of the week, and the beam of light sweeps over the city. When lit, the monument can be seen from afar, from many points along the waterfront.

The complex is about 150 meters above sea level. At its base there are viewpoints with wide views of the tall buildings of the Praia Central, the bay and the sea. There is also a grotto dedicated to Nossa Senhora Aparecida, a memorial with photos of the city's history, a souvenir shop and a restaurant.

The visit is short and effortless: you go up by car or van to the complex, and the viewpoints are close to the parking lot. It is worth it both by day, for the view, and at night, for the lights.
