About Poço do Diabo

Poço do Diabo (Devil's Pool) is a waterfall on the Mucugezinho River, near Lençóis, in Chapada Diamantina. The falls, about 20 meters high, plunge from a rock wall and form a wide pool of dark, reddish water, the color of cola.

It is one of the easiest outings in the region. From the side of the BR-242, a short trail follows the bed of the Mucugezinho over rock slabs, passing other pools good for swimming before reaching the waterfall. Along the way, the river runs squeezed between the rocks, in a small canyon.

The water is among the coldest in the Chapada. Local agencies use the surrounding rock walls for rappelling and zip-lining. There are no lifeguards, and the pool is deep.

The trail is short, but takes some fitness, with stretches over rock; it is not suitable for people with limited mobility. At the trailhead, by the road, there is parking, a snack bar and a restroom.
