About Jardim Japonês

The Jardim Japonês of Caldas Novas is an Asian-inspired garden in the Chácara Roma neighborhood, near downtown. It was created in the 1980s by Japanese-born Toshiyuki Murai, inspired by the gardens of Buddhist temples.

The walk follows paths between ponds with fish, cascades and lots of plants. Japanese-style bridges cross the water, and stone lanterns line the banks. At the entrance, dragon statues stand guard. Each element has a meaning: the bridge, for example, represents peace.

There are also free-roaming animals, such as peacocks and turtles, and an old house that serves as a small museum, with furniture and objects from other eras.

The garden is not free: there is a small entrance fee. It is a short, flat outing, good if you want a break from the pools, for families and for anyone who likes photography.
