About Abismo Anhumas

The Abismo Anhumas is a cave with an underground lake of crystal-clear water, about 24 km from downtown Bonito. It is the most extreme tour in the region and one of the most sought after: you descend 72 meters through an opening at the top of the rock to a deck over the lake far below.

The cave was only first explored in 1970 and opened to visitors in 1999. Inside, light enters through the opening and illuminates a huge chamber. The lake has very clear water and hides large limestone cones rising from the bottom.

Down below there are three ways to experience the lake: sightseeing only, on a raft ride with the guides lighting up the formations; snorkeling with a mask, to see the cones from above; and scuba diving, for certified divers or as a beginner's try dive.

The number of visitors per day is small, and you must complete a preparation session the day before. The water is cold and the tour takes some stamina, but you do not need to be an athlete. Ask about the minimum age and accessibility conditions when you book.
