About Ninho das Águias
Ninho das Águias is the municipal free-flight ramp of Nova Petrópolis, in Serra Gaúcha. It sits on top of a hill northwest of town, about 4 km from the center, and also works as a viewpoint, with a 270-degree panoramic view over the Vale do Caí.
The town bought the land in 1988 and the site officially opened on February 15, 1989. Since then it has welcomed free-flight pilots, who take off from the ramp and land in a field in the valley below.
Even if you don't fly, the trip up is worth it. You can stand at the edge of the hill watching the pilots get ready and launch from the ramp, or simply take in the valley scenery. In the late afternoon, many people come to watch the sunset.
It's an outing for all ages. If you want to fly, tandem flights are offered by licensed companies and pilots, who take the passenger along with the instructor.

Access is from BR-116, at km 181, heading toward Caxias do Sul, then along Avenida Ninho das Águias to the hilltop. Go by car or ride-hailing app.
Tip
There's an entrance fee, with discounts for students and seniors and free entry for young children; check rates, payment methods and hours on the official website. Bring a warm layer, because it gets very windy at the top. Using a drone requires prior authorization from the Tourism Office and ANAC (the civil aviation agency).
