About Labirinto Verde
The Labirinto Verde is a maze of cypresses trimmed into hedges, in the center of Nova Petrópolis. It's next to Praça das Flores and is one of the town's best-known postcard images.
It opened in 1989. The idea came from Hans Hesse, a German resident inspired by the maze in Schönbusch Park, in Aschaffenburg, Germany. The design is by architect Lauro Alberto Schuch, and the project had the support of the city government at the time.
The cypress walls are over 2 meters high, which makes walking the paths a real challenge. You go in, look for the way to the center and then try to find the exit. From outside, you can admire the regular pattern of the hedges.
It's a short, fun outing for kids, families and groups of friends. Since it's in the center, it pairs well with a walk around Praça das Flores and the surrounding streets.
