About Cachoeira do Caiado
Cachoeira do Caiado (waterfall) is in the community of Guiomar, in the countryside of Vargem Alta, in the mountain region of Espírito Santo. It is the waterfall closest to downtown and one of the most popular for swimming in the municipality.
The fall drops between rock walls and forms a wide pool, with a strip of sand on the bank. Remnants of Atlantic Forest surround it, and just below, the river continues among rocks, forming small rapids.
Access is free. You can swim in the pool, relax on the bank and photograph the fall and the forest. It is an easygoing outing, good for families.
After heavy rain, the water turns murky and the current gets stronger. On those days, it is best to just admire the fall from a distance.

On hot summer days, between late morning and early afternoon, when the sun reaches the pool; avoid the days right after heavy rain.
How to get there
It is in Guiomar, in the countryside of Vargem Alta. Coming from Vitória on the BR-101 heading south, near the Iconha exit take the ES-375 and then the ES-383 to Guiomar. The waterfall entrance is signposted.
Tip
Bring shoes that can get wet: the rocks near the fall and the river are slippery.
