About Cachoeira da Fumaça

Cachoeira da Fumaça (waterfall) is the best-known waterfall in Conceição do Castelo, in the Espírito Santo mountains. It is on Fazenda Viçosa, a private farm near town, open to visitors.

The name comes from the droplets the force of the water throws into the air as it hits the rocks. From a distance, this mist looks like smoke.

The water first drops in a big fall, framed by a rock wall, and then continues among rocks as rapids until it forms a calm pool. Forest and pasture surround it, in a very rural setting.

The outing is short and suits anyone in town who wants to see a waterfall without a long trail. To get close to the fall you have to cross rocks, which get slippery: wear sturdy shoes and keep a close eye on children.
