About Pedra dos Três Pontões
Pedra dos Três Pontões (rock) is one of the biggest natural symbols of Afonso Cláudio, in the Espírito Santo mountains. It is a rock formation rising above the municipality's countryside, surrounded by native forest, pastures and coffee fields.
The name comes from the shape of the rock, marked by large peaks at the top separated by deep clefts. Its silhouette can be seen from many points along the region's roads and is considered the town's signature view.
The site is popular for adventure sports. There is a natural hang gliding ramp, and the rock draws rappellers and climbers. If you do not do these sports, you can walk through the surrounding forest, photograph the rock and go birdwatching.
The trails require good fitness, sturdy shoes and water. Climbing and rappelling should be done with a guide or instructor, who can be hired in town. It is not recommended for people with reduced mobility.
