About Pedra da Lajinha
Pedra da Lajinha (rock) is a large rock massif in the rural area of Afonso Cláudio, in the mountain region of Espírito Santo. It is on the Rota Vale do Empoçado, a valley surrounded by rock walls a few minutes from downtown, and rises to about 1,200 meters above sea level.
The rock is well known among climbers. One of its walls has one of the longest climbing routes in Brazil, called "O Tempo e o Vento," more than 1 km long.
If you do not climb, you can still go up. A much less technical mountain trail leads to the top of the rock, with a wide view of the mountains and the valley. The climb requires good fitness and is done with a local guide, who can be hired in town.
The outing goes well with the rest of the Rota Vale do Empoçado, which has other rocks, trails and natural pools among the boulders. It is not recommended for people with reduced mobility.
