About Praia do Gravatá
Praia do Gravatá (beach) is at the far north of Navegantes, on the north coast of Santa Catarina. On one side is the mouth of the Rio Gravatá, with a small stone jetty, and right behind it rise forested hills that give the beach a different look from the rest of the flatter waterfront.
It is the most popular beach in town for surfers. The waves break near the rocks and often form several lines of white water all the way to the sand. On rough days, swimming calls for care, especially near the river mouth and the rocks.
On the beach is Pedra da Miraguaia, a rocky point visited by anglers year-round and a good spot to look out over the sea and the waterfront. The sand is lined by a beachfront avenue with a sidewalk, leisure areas and buildings.
In summer, Gravatá is one of the busiest beach areas in Navegantes, with bars, restaurants and kiosks. Outside the season, it is a quiet beach, good for walking and watching the surfers.

How much time to set aside
Half a day is enough to enjoy the beach, walk to the river mouth and climb Pedra da Miraguaia.

In summer, for swimming and the busy bars; in the late afternoon in any season, when the light hits the hills and the surfers are in the water.
How to get there
It is at the northern tip of the Navegantes waterfront. By car, just follow the waterfront road north from downtown. If you are coming from Itajaí, you can cross the river on the ferry to Navegantes and continue along the waterfront.
Tip
To watch the surf and the river mouth at the same time, climb onto the Miraguaia rocks; wear sturdy shoes, because the rocks get slippery.
