About Praia de Cabeçudas

Cabeçudas is the most traditional beach in Itajaí and one of the oldest beach resorts in Santa Catarina. It is in a leafy residential neighborhood, a few kilometers from downtown, and is the favorite of local residents.

The beach began as a spot for small-scale fishermen. It got busier when immigrant ships, unable to cross the river bar in rough seas, landed passengers and goods in the neighboring cove. Over time it became a summer resort.

The sea is calm and shallow, good for families with children. At each end, natural rocks jut into the water and serve as lookouts. The waterfront has a tree-shaded promenade, parking, showers and restaurants serving mainly fish and seafood.

Nearby, the Morro do Farol (hill) offers a wide view of the sea and is good for walking. On the way from downtown to the beach is the Bico do Papagaio ("parrot's beak"), a rock shaped like a bird's head that came about by chance during the blasting to build the road.
