About Praia Brava

Praia Brava (beach) is the best-known beach in Itajaí. It is in the south of the municipality, on the border with Balneário Camboriú, and has a long strip of light sand, with open sea and strong waves most of the time.

The central stretch has steady waves and is a traditional surf spot. At the south end, by the Morro do Careca, the sea is calmer, and that is where the hang gliders who take off from the hill land. Between the sand and the avenue there is a strip of restinga (coastal scrub), and the waterfront has a promenade, bike path and lighting, good for walking and cycling in the late afternoon.

At the far north end is the Canto do Morcego, a more unspoiled and quiet stretch surrounded by tall, forest-covered hills. From there a trail leads to Praia da Solidão, a small wild beach next door.

The surrounding neighborhood is built up, with apartment buildings, restaurants, shops and nightlife. The rough sea calls for care: for swimming, choose stretches with a lifeguard station and follow the flags.
