About Pico da Pedra
Pico da Pedra (peak) is a rocky summit in the mountains of inland Camboriú, near the border with Itapema. You climb it on a short trail through the Atlantic Forest that starts in the Rio Pequeno neighborhood and ends on a bare rock summit.
The big draw is the view. From up there, the valley and the town of Camboriú lie at your feet, and the coastline stretches from end to end, with Balneário Camboriú and Itapema just below. On clear days, you can see as far as the Ilha do Arvoredo and the north of the Ilha de Santa Catarina.
The trail is about 2 km long and of moderate difficulty. The start is easy, but there are steep stretches with roots, loose dirt and a final rock ramp where you sometimes need to use your hands. Along the way you can hear and see forest birds.
It is an outing for people with some fitness and sturdy shoes. Children used to walking can make it with supervision, but the route is not accessible for people with reduced mobility. In the rain, the rock and dirt get slippery.

Practical information
How much time to set aside
Set aside 3 to 4 hours to climb, enjoy the view at the top and come down at a relaxed pace.
Best time
Clear mornings, especially in fall and winter, when the dry air lets you see farther; avoid rainy days and do not start the trail close to nightfall.
How to get there
The trailhead is on Rua Rio Congonhas, in the Rio Pequeno neighborhood, in the countryside of Camboriú, off Avenida Rio Amazonas. The easiest way is by car; small farms at the foot of the trail receive visitors. You can also get there from the Itapema side.
Tip
Bring water, insect repellent and sunscreen and wear sneakers with good grip: the rock ramp near the top is the most demanding stretch, especially on the way down.
