About Praia de Piçarras

Praia de Piçarras (beach) is the main beach of Balneário Piçarras, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina. It is the most built-up and busiest stretch of the waterfront, with apartment buildings, hotels, restaurants and beach services facing the sea.

The sea is usually calm. Stone breakwaters jut into the water and help hold the sand and break the waves, which crash near the shore and then leave the water gentle, like a pool. The beach has suffered from erosion over the decades, and since the late 1990s the sand has been replenished more than once.

A tree-lined promenade follows the waterfront and is good for walking, running or cycling in the shade. Near the mouth of the Rio Piçarras is the tourist breakwater, with a walkway and benches, from where you can see much of the beach and the sunset over the sea.

With its calm water and facilities, it is very popular with families with children and anyone who wants to spend the day without moving around much. Access is flat, through the downtown streets.
