About Poço Encantado

The Poço Encantado is a waterfall about 38 meters high in Chapada dos Veadeiros, in the municipality of Teresina de Goiás. The water comes down in many thin streams over a rock wall and drops into a wide pool, surrounded by cerrado vegetation.

The fall is on a private farm that also works as a pousada. If you're not staying there, you pay admission for the day. You don't need to hire a guide.

The big draw is the pool, wide and good for swimming. A small sandy beach forms on the bank, with a shallow area where children can play more safely. The water is usually very cold. There's stand-up paddleboard rental and facilities with a restaurant and snack bar.

It's one of the easiest waterfalls in the region. From the parking lot to the falls is just a few minutes' walk, along a short path that crosses a suspension bridge and has a downhill stretch. That's why it's popular with families with kids and anyone who doesn't want to tackle long trails.

Practical information

How much time to set aside

Set aside half a day to swim, relax on the little beach and have a leisurely lunch.

Best time

In the dry season, from May to September, the water is clearer and access easier; on hot days, late morning and early afternoon are the best times to get into the cold water.

How to get there

It's along GO-118, about 52 km from Alto Paraíso de Goiás, toward Cavalcante, already in Teresina de Goiás. The route is almost entirely paved, with a short stretch of dirt road to the farmhouse. You'll need to go by car or with hired transportation.

Tip

Bring a towel and a light warm layer, because the water is icy, and arrive early to find the little beach less crowded. Check rates and hours with the pousada before you go.
