About Cachoeira da Capivara
The Cachoeira da Capivara (waterfall) is in the Engenho II community, in the Kalunga quilombola territory, in Cavalcante, in northeastern Goiás. It's a neighbor of the famous Cachoeira Santa Bárbara, and the two are usually visited on the same outing.
What stands out is two kinds of falls meeting in the same pool: on one side, a tall, thin fall drops from the cliff; on the other, the water comes down in a series of small cascades over the rocks. The pool has shallow and deep parts, and there are also small natural pools up top.
The trail is short and takes little effort, but the final descent to the pool is steep, down stone steps. Along the way there's a viewpoint overlooking the forest and the hills of the region.
Visits are organized by the Kalunga community itself and can only be made with a local guide, hired at the Engenho II visitor center. There's an entrance fee.
