Aydın
Aydın stretches from the Büyük Menderes valley to the Aegean: Kuşadası and Didim on the coast, the temples of Didyma and Priene, Miletus, Aphrodisias inland, and the figs that make the province famous.

The province
Get to know Aydın
Aydın lies on the southern Aegean coast, between İzmir and Muğla, and occupies the valley of the Büyük Menderes river, the ancient Meander, whose bends gave the word its name. The valley is olive groves and fig trees; the coast is beaches and peninsulas.
Kuşadası, a cruise port and seaside resort, is a few kilometers from Ephesus and has Pigeon Island (Güvercinada), with a fortress connected to the waterfront by a causeway. South of the town, the Dilek Peninsula National Park protects coves, forests and the Büyük Menderes delta.
Didim combines beaches with the ruins of the Temple of Apollo at Didyma, one of the great sanctuaries of the Greek world. Nearby are Miletus, the city of the philosopher Thales, and Priene, with the Temple of Athena facing the Meander plain.
In the interior, at Geyre, Aphrodisias was a city dedicated to Aphrodite and a center of marble sculptors; the site and the ancient quarries are UNESCO-listed and are commonly visited from Pamukkale. Nysa and Tralles complete the ancient towns of the province.
Aydın figs, fresh at the end of summer and dried year-round, are known across the country, as is the valley's olive oil.

Didim
Didim provides a coastal base and the Apollo sanctuary of ancient Didyma. The temple has urban access; Miletus and Priene are in other localities and broaden the archaeological itinerary with different landscapes. You should arrange transport for all three, without assuming they are sectors of one ancient city.

Kuşadası
Kuşadası is a coastal town and cruise port on the Aegean coast. Güvercinada marks the town centre and can be reached on foot; the Dilek peninsula requires a separate outing. Staying by the sea lets you combine urban days with a visit to Ephesus, without mixing beach time and archaeological time.
When to go
April to June and September to October are often the best times for the ruins, with milder temperatures. For the beach in Kuşadası and Didim, June to September are usually the hottest months; in July and August, visit the sites early in the morning. Fresh figs are most common in August and September.
Getting there
The most used airport is Adnan Menderes (ADB) in İzmir, from where you continue by road to Kuşadası or by train to Selçuk. For Didim, Milas–Bodrum Airport (BJV) also serves the area. Check before you buy. The city of Aydın has a station on the rail line that comes from İzmir and continues to Denizli, the town of Pamukkale.
Your questions
Frequently asked questions about Aydın
Kuşadası or Selçuk: where to stay to visit Ephesus?
Selçuk is closer to the site and has a small-town feel. Kuşadası, in Aydın province, is a few kilometers away, with a beach, marina and more accommodation options. Both work as bases.
Can you see Priene, Miletus and Didyma in the same day?
Yes, by car or with an organized tour. The three sites lie in the southern part of the province, in sequence along the road from Söke to Didim; reserve a full day.
How to visit Aphrodisias?
The most common option is to go from Pamukkale, a journey of about an hour and a half by road, and return the same day. The site has a museum, a stadium and the Tetrapylon, the monumental gateway.
Does Kuşadası receive cruise ships?
Yes. Kuşadası port is a stop for Aegean cruises, and many passengers use their time ashore to visit Ephesus. Those arriving by ship should allow time for the round trip to the site.
