Today's highlights
Demre contains the town center linked to ancient Mira and the memorial museum of St. Nicholas. Rock-cut tombs and a theatre form an archaeological visit separate from the historic church. The town is also connected with coastal departures to Kekova, which need their own transfer and sailing time.
Trebizonda (Trabzon) is a gateway to the eastern Black Sea, with an airport and urban services. the former Hagia Sophia (Santa Sofia) displays the city’s Byzantine heritage. Sumela lies outside the coastal core, on a slope of the Altındere valley.
Edirne is in European Thrace, near Greece and Bulgaria, and was the Ottoman capital before Istanbul. Sinan's Selimiye is the main landmark, accompanied by the Eski Cami and Üç Şerefeli. The Bayezid II Health Museum and the Great Synagogue allow you to expand the visit beyond the mosques.
Uçhisar is spread around a carved rock that defines the Cappadocia skyline. The core combines hillside houses, viewpoints and paths that lead to the valleys. Climbing the castle lets you understand the layout of the villages and surrounding formations.
Kaymaklı is a village south of Nevşehir with an underground city open to visitors. The route brings travelers close to storage, circulation and shelter spaces carved into the rock over different phases of occupation.
Kars combines a stone urban core, a fortress above the river and a regional history museum. It is the access base for Ani, with medieval ruins in open landscape on Turkey’s eastern border. Arrival can be by plane or by the long train journey from Ankara.
Diyarbakır has a historic core enclosed by basalt walls. The ensemble with the Hevsel gardens is a World Heritage site. The Great Mosque and the buildings of İçkale add architecture and context to a walk through the old streets.
Kemer occupies a strip of coastline between the Mediterranean and the slopes of the Taurus Mountains. The town is a beach and accommodation base for visiting Phaselis, where ancient harbors, ruins and coves share the same stretch of coast.
Selçuk is the nearby base for Ephesus and holds visits that deserve time outside the site: the Ephesus Museum, the Basilica of St. John and the İsa Bey mosque. The House of the Virgin Mary is on the hillside, with road access. It’s a choice for organizing archaeology by periods and avoiding doing everything between two transfers.
Ayder is a mountain base in Rize province, linked to the valleys and highlands of the Kaçkar. The landscape combines forests, slopes and pastures. Stay flexible for rain, fog and changes in access conditions to the surroundings.
