About Cap Blanc Lighthouse

The Cap Blanc lighthouse sits on a promontory on the west coast of Le Cap, the northern peninsula of Miquelon. It was built in 1883 after the frigate Niobé wrecked off the cape in 1874, on a stretch of coast where fog and rocks caused many accidents.

The round tower is about 19 m high: the cast-iron structure was covered with concrete, and the lantern and the gallery railing are red. Next to it is the single-storey house of the former lighthouse keeper. The lighthouse remains active, with alternating red and white flashes, and preserves a Fresnel lens.

You can reach it by car or on foot from the village. The site is open, but the tower is not open to visitors. From the promontory you can see the west coast of the cape and, on a clear day, the open sea toward the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
