About Cap de Miquelon

Cap de Miquelon occupies Le Cap, the old northern island, connected to the village by a sandbar. The rocks differ from the rest of Miquelon, and the landscape changes within a few kilometers: peatlands with small ponds, heathland, wind-twisted boreal forest and high cliffs above the ocean. Gulls nest on the cliffs, and birds of prey, like the bald eagle, are often seen at Cap du Nid à l'Aigle.

The highlight is the Cormorandière valley viewpoint, a green valley with two ponds where white-tailed deer sometimes appear. Foxes and hares also live on the cape. It is one of the archipelago’s most frequented trails, by both visitors and locals.

The official trail is about 10 km, moderate difficulty and about 4h30. It starts at the viewpoint with an orientation table, descends to the Étang du Lac, continues to the Cormorandière viewpoint and returns along the cliff path on the west coast to the village, passing the Butte aux Berrys. In summer, the Maison de la Nature et de l'Environnement organizes guided walks to the Cormorandière, the Cap and the Nid à l'Aigle.
