About Anse du Gouvernement

Anse du Gouvernement is the cove on the north coast of Langlade where the summer houses of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon residents gather. Langlade, also called Petite Miquelon, has no permanent village: in summer the cove fills with families, and in winter it is almost empty. There is the chapel of Sainte-Thérèse and the dock where seasonal boats from Saint-Pierre tie up.

The Belle Rivière, the archipelago’s largest river, flows into the cove, descending between hills covered in boreal forest. The landscape differs from the rest of the islands: sedimentary rocks, wooded valleys and streams. The Cap Corbeau trail starts at the chapel of Sainte-Thérèse and follows the Belle Rivière before climbing to a cross; the Anse aux Soldats trail, about 3 km and 2h30, starts at the pebble beach, crosses the top of Tête Pelée and reaches a clearing above the neighboring cove.

Longer southern trails also depart from Langlade, such as the one that crosses the forest to the Pointe Plate lighthouse, and on the nearby dune belt the Dunefest open-air music festival takes place.
